RESULTS OF SPECIAL ELECTION FOR CA STATE ASSEMBLY DISTRICT

On Tuesday, August 27, voters cast their ballots for a temporary replacement to serve in the CA State Assembly for District 1 until next year’s election. The seat became vacant when Brian Dahle moved up to the State Senate. There were five candidates running for the replacement term. No candidate received 50+1% (a majority) of the vote on August 27 so the top two will move on to the Tuesday, November 5 general election: Elizabeth Betancourt and Megan Dahle.
TRUCKEE APPOINTMENT NEWS

August 27 was also an important day for Truckee residents and businesses. On that day, the Town Council selected Tony Commendatore to fill the vacant seat caused by the resignation of Truckee Vice Mayor Morgan Goodwin. Tony is a CATT member and owner of Aegis Insurance Markets. Tony is also the CATT Local Government Affairs Committee Chairman and vice chair of the CATT Affordable/Workforce Housing Solutions Group.
The Sierra Sun website posted an article the next day with a photo of Tony:
“Tony Commendatore, a managing partner at Aegis Insurance Markets in Truckee, was appointed to fill the vacant Truckee Town Council seat on Tuesday night, with a three to one vote.
“I want to leave my fingerprints and make this a better place than when I got here,” said Commendatore. “With my fresh viewpoint and background I think I’d be a great addition to the town council.”
Commendatore was up against former Council Member Patrick Flora, who had served since since 2012 but chose not to run in the November 2018 election, and Truckee Planning Commissioner Jan Zabriskie.
He will serve until the November 2020 election. The seat will then be up for grabs in that election and the winning candidate would serve until the November 2022 election. With three seats open in the 2020 election, candidates will have to specify if they are running for the four-year term seats or the two-year term seat.
The applications received by the town were reviewed by a committee of Council members David Polivy and Jessica Abrams and town staff. Candidates who made it past the initial review process went before council on Tuesday.”
MEET YOUR CATTPAC BOARD – Director Kristine Keck

Kristine Keck moved to Truckee 18 years ago to start her career with Truckee Tahoe Lumber Company. She started out at the register counter and through good-old-fashion American work ethic, worked her way up to General Manager of the Truckee location.
Kristine got involved with CATTPAC back in 2008 when she was first developing a passion for politics. Kristine explains, “It came at a time when I was frustrated with government and bureaucracies and regulations and things over which I really had no control. I decided the place that we, as the people, can really make a difference is on a local level. Joining CATTPAC helps me to have a voice and make a bigger impact on the things that directly affect our community and industry.”
Why does CATTPAC matter? Kristine has strong feelings about that subject: “The building industry needs business friendly elected officials who will be careful and balanced in their approach to regulation, fees and policy. We are here to ensure that we are choosing the best possible candidates advocating our best interests. We’re creating and conducting comprehensive interviews, attending forums and debates at which we take exhaustive notes, collaboratively deciding whether to or not to endorse. So when we release our decisions in press write-ups, we are offering an honest and credible list of chosen candidates that you can trust are the right choice when you hit the polls.”
She adds, “I’m not trying to accomplish anything specifically. I just want to contribute to our community. I think everyone should try to participate or get involved in something. For some, it’s PTO at a school or volunteering at local events or maybe sponsoring a softball team. For me it’s CATTPAC.”
Truckee Tahoe Lumber is a 4th generation family-owned company, established nearly 90 years ago. It’s the local lumber yard that has grown to have 4 locations – Truckee, Tahoe City, Sparks NV, and the new cut facility at USA Parkway off I-80 in Storey County. While TTL has grown to service a number of new markets, the company keeps its mission and values strongly in place:
“Truckee-Tahoe Lumber Company's mission is to be the finest building materials supplier in Northern California and Nevada. We provide builders, homeowners, and designers a broad range of quality products and innovative services at competitive prices and we are always adapting to the ever-changing needs of our customers and markets.
