Hello, CATT Members –
I recently attended another meeting of the Town of Truckee’s General Plan Advisory Committee with CATT Government Affairs Manager, Pat Davison, CATT General Plan Update Committee Chairman, Chip Huck, and LGAC Chairman, Craig Weaver. The focus of the meeting was on refining the Vison Statement and discussing how Guiding Principles and Goals for Land Use, Community Character and Economic Development might be updated for the new 2040 General Plan. There were detailed discussions at each of 3 tables for each topic with a variety of community interests represented. It is important to know that when the Town Council votes to adopt the new 2040 General Plan, the recommendations of the General Plan Advisory Committee one of the factors the Council will consider along with the Planning Commission recommendations. The 2040 document will define and guide Council and Planning Commission decisions for the next 2 decades. The future of Truckee is at stake in these meetings – CATT’s General Plan Update Committee has been working on understanding the issues and participating in the process so that the choices that are made support the long term economic health and needs of our many member businesses and their employees, who live and work in this community. As always, we are relying on CATT volunteers to do much of the work that has to be done to be effective in this process – the CATT General Plan Update Committee could do a lot more with more volunteer help – make a commitment to guide the future of Truckee in the right direction today by joining the CATT GPU Committee! Please contact Chairman, Chip Huck christopher.huck@gmail.com or CATT Government Affairs Manager, Pat Davison pat@ca-tt.com to learn more about how you can help.
The General Plan is a vital governing document for elected and appointed officials to use to make important decisions which control our future. It is important to note that, although we have seen many robust discussions about vision, goals and philosophies, we have not yet seen a detailed analysis of the performance of the current General Plan and how/why it succeeded or failed. This seems to be critical information in the crafting of a new General Plan – if we understand how we failed in the realization of important goals in the current Plan, then we can go to work on what we might do differently in the new Plan. A grand vision and great guiding principles are really of no value to the community if we don’t have a clear understanding of the tools needed and steps required to successfully implement that vision and achieve those goals. CATT representatives will ask GPAC and Town staff to engage this critical task, but it would help to have more of our members – and anyone else – add their voice to prioritize this essential part of the process.
I would like to extend a warm welcome to CATT’s new Events Manager, Brittany Charme. Brittany has extensive experience planning and organizing special events for Sugar Bowl Resort and Truckee River Winery over the past 7 years. We look forward to having the benefit of her experience and enthusiasm to organize and lead our Events program over the coming years. Christmas party tickets are now on sale – go to the CATT website and get your tickets soon – we expect to surpass 500 attendees and will likely sell out again this year!
Regards to All –
