ELECTION/APPOINTMENT NEWS
Because there was little time and 20 candidates who applied for the vacant District 5 seat on the Placer County Board of Supervisors, the CATTPAC Board did not conduct interviews prior to the Board appointment. The CATTPAC Board did submit a letter outlining selection criteria for the ideal candidate covering the largest district in Placer County (Auburn area and the east slope).
On April 11, the Board of Supervisors appointed Cindy Gustafson as the District 5 Supervisor to replace Jennifer Montgomery. Montgomery was named Director of Governor Newsom’s “Forest Management Task Force.” Cindy is well known through her position as General Manager of the Tahoe City Public Utility District and more recently, as the CEO of the North Lake Tahoe Resort Association. Cindy is married to CATT member Wally Auerbach (Auerbach Engineering Corporation). According to a County press release, Cindy “will serve the remainder of Montgomery’s term, which expires at the end of 2020, with the next election for the District 5 seat set for the March 2020 presidential primary election.”

Early in his tenure, Mike recognized the value CATTPAC brings to the construction industry and community. “I feel it’s important to stay informed and inform others about the political platform our industry has in the Truckee Tahoe area. CATTPAC stays informed by interviewing potential candidates and meeting with community members. I am proud of the work we have done as a board to support business-friendly candidates, measures, and economic industry programs.”
Mike believes the CATTPAC benefits CATT and the community through researching policies, both political and community based. “We are a voice of common sense for the construction industry and governmental community concerns. Our board has always been one of commitment to a thoughtful approach to the construction industry.” This philosophy is one that Mike hopes will carry on long past his term.
Mike has been a partner at Truckee North Tahoe Materials and the Rock Garden for 27 years. Truckee North Tahoe Materials (TNT) has been delivering concrete to the North Lake Tahoe and Truckee area since 1969. In 1991 the business was sold to its current owners. Along with TNT, The Rock Garden was opened in 1997 as a Masonry and Stone Mercantile business, and both businesses are pillars in the community.
