Now is a Great Time to Remodel

2013 CATT Remodel Committee Mission Statement

Our mission is to stimulate consumer interest in remodeling by utilizing a variety of advertising media and to promote CATT and its members.

This is a great time to think about remodeling your North Tahoe or Truckee area home. These factors make the next year or two the best time in the last 15-20 years to remodel or build an addition!

  • Labor and materials competitively priced
  • The slowdown in new home construction means homeowners will have a far wider selection of builders and lower labor prices - this can create a competitive construction environment

  • Smaller projects, usually less than 500 square feet, do not require the payment of mitigation fees to local government or special districts
  • Retrofitting with "green" energy efficient appliances or materials may result in a rebate back to you from suppliers or utility providers!
  • And despite what you may have heard about the flow of credit, financing for remodels is available! Financing a home improvement project, rather than paying cash, may give you a new tax deduction in the form of interest paid on the home improvement loan. Consult your tax advisor for guidance.
  • Some improvements can generate an increase in market value. Check out this website for some general numbers about rate of return: www.costvsvalue.com. According to that info source, a bathroom remodel done in 2008 will generate about an 86% return in value, while a wooden deck addition will generate a whopping 97% return in value.

Other reasons to remodel your home:

  • To replace outdated fixtures and features
  • To add more usable living space (vs. buying another home)
  • To enhance the appearance
  • To increase fire safety
  • To improve erosion control and water quality
